Choice. Located on Furnace Creek, Death Valley area. Location: Esmeralda Co., Nevada. Incorporated in New Jersey in 1880. # 290 for 400 shares to Thomas Russell on July 6, 1881 in Jersey City. Signed by president G. Washington Warren and treasurer N. O. Dyer Jr. Not cancelled. Black print on yellow paper. Indian Queen vignette. Folds, light wear. Reverse of certificate has the information on the death of Thomas Russell. Includes a very nice, crisp, clean small red seal! Discovered by Indian Charley in 1870 who was shot and killed by an officer of the law. Several newspapers place the location on Furnace Creek ñ Death Valley area. The Indian Queen was the principal mine in the district, opened to a depth of 400 ft. The ore is very refractory but also rich and processed by a 5-stamp mill and Howell roasting furnace.
