This cartridge belt was made by Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, New York, c.1880s. Later that decade the Watervliet Arsenal made cannons. This one is canvas and leather with the Watervliet Arsenal stamp on the leather along with the inspector mark of "A.R. Smith". Another illegible inspector's initials are on the inside. The belt has 54 loops with over 30 carrying black powder cartridges of the period marked "U.M.C. 45-70 S H". There are several cartridges marked 45-70 that are shorter with a jacketed bullet possibly for the carbine model. The overall length is 44 in. including brass buckle. In very good condition. No sales to New York, New Jersey, California, Hawaii, and Alaska. No international sales. Extra shipping charges apply. From the Sherman collection.
