Lot of 7. 1) Three 1883 documents, including a United States Penitentiary letterhead signed by the warden, dateline Deer Lodge. All are related to convict Lars Hermanson, who escaped from the Territorial Prison on July 10th, 1883. Includes payment of transporting him from Missoula County jail to the prison at Deer Lodge, as well as the reward from the governor for recapturing him. 2) Other documents include: 1876 receipt to sheriff for transporting prisoner Joseph Long from Bannack to Deer Lodge; 1887 receipts to sheriff HH Black for keeping a convict in the Chateau County jail; and 1888 receipt to sheriff JW Hathaway for custody of multiple convicts.
