Lot of 7 different cancels. 1) Esmeralda, 1864. The name of this post office was officially changed to Aurora in 1866. Double circle with a target killer. 2) Aurora, January 23, c1872. Reduced at right. cc of Silas Smith. He is noted for running a mercantile house in Bodie. 3) Aurora, February 12, 1890. Two outer rings and a star cancel. Addressed to A. Pettibone of Bodie. Bodie cancel on back. 4) August 1, 189-. Ovate grid. Not mentioned in Gruber. From the Grand Lodge of the IOOF in Virginia City to Benj. Cottrell in Aurora. 5) January 10, 1910. Blue cancel on a post card. Addressed to J. Oliver Kirkpatrick of Aurora. 6) August 6, 1912. Purple cancel on post card. Aurora was in the newly created Mineral County at this time. 7) February 8, 1918. From John Erickson of Aurora to the Owl Drug Company of San Francisco.
