Inc. in New York, 1881. No. 706, issued for 100 shares to C.B. Sillich on Jan. 27th, 1882. Signed by president Mott and secretary Mur. Not cancelled. Vignette of miners working with headlamp and vignette of California seal. Printed by Grogan & Martha, NY. Folds, very fine. 7.5 x 10.5" This was one of the most important mines at Panamint. It was originally formed by John Jones and his fellow Comstock millionaires, who raised significant capital to develop the mine but found it didn't meet their expectations. They sold out to a group of New York investors headed by U.S. Grant Jr. This new company did better than expected, but Panamint never became the next Comstock Lode, as many had hoped. This company later became the Surprise Mining & Milling Co. [Ref: Filer I, pg. 80] (Al Adams Gold Rush Memorabilia Collection) Date: Location: Inyo County, California HWAC# 58454
