Marked J. Russell & Co / 1834 / Green River Works. Blade is 7.5 inches. Ivory handle is 4 inches with fractures. Russel & Co. started manufacturing knives in 1834. Their knives were some of those that were coming into the Gold Rush before the San Francisco cutleries had been established. This knife could date to the 1850s. Later, they began copying the designs of Will & Finck. Russell & Co. became famous in the West with their "Green River" hunting knife, sold to miners, buffalo hunters, Native Americans and more.
