1897. Nice cover from Jackson, CA advertising Admission Day '97. Left has mining scene vignette with a bear (colored brown) beneath. Two-cent stamp, cancelled. Back stamped San Francisco Cala. Sep 3 5 PM '97. if not delivered in 5 days, return to New National Hotel, J.E. Huber, Prop. Addressed to Mrs. Phil. Deidesheimer, Occidental Hotel, San Francisco Cal. Philip Deidesheimer was the brilliant mining engineer who created the square-set timber design that allowed for the Comstock mines to remain stable at depth.
