The Constable of the first township issued the Notice of Attachment out of the Justice Court to attach "all moneys, debts, effects, and credits in your hands or under your control belonging to the above Defendant [James King of William] or so much thereof as will satisfy the claim, to wit: $200.00 with cost and accruing cost." James King of William (January 28, 1822 – May 20,1856) was a crusading San Francisco, California, newspaper editor whose shooting death in 1856 resulted in the establishment of the second San Francisco Vigilance Committee and changed the politics of the city. The Vigilance Committee hung the man who shot him, and King is given credit for rousting the criminal element from City government.
