1) Fawn Gold Mining Company. Number 140 for 100 shares to EA Underhill in 1906. Signed by vice president Zeb Kendall and secretary January Jones. Good condition. This company had an impressive list of offices: Kendall, Al Myers, and January Jones. Two were upstanding citizens. How they became connected to Jones??? "Zeb" Kendall was a prominent Tonopah citizen who developed mining interests, operated the Palace Hotel, and represented Nye County in the Nevada state legislature. He was also a founding father of "Goldfield" and a renowned promoter around Rawhide. A notorious gambler, he lost a number of small fortunes. In the 1930's, he bought up much of the Comstock tailings and, with a superior milling process, proceeded to make yet another fortune. 2) "Pacific Monthly, June 1906" advertising page for January Jones and his new "Great Gold Mine." This one is for the January Jones Exploration Company of Goldfield which yielded over one million dollars in eleven months. 3) January Jones letterhead. May 1938. To Fred Rankin. Sending him 5000 shares and holding another 500 shares in stock for him. Signed by Jones. 4) January Gold Mines, Inc. Stock Certificate. Number 91 for 5000 shares. Signed by Robert B Fox and president January Jones. Goes with letter. Gorgeous!

This ad says it all, "January Jones has helped more men and women to real wealth than any miner in the West. January Jones is one of the pioneers who made Goldfield, Nevada famous. He leased the January claim took out a million dollars and divided it among his backers at the rate of one thousand to every hundred dollars invested. His Bullfrog Eclipse in less than six months has paid his friends three dollars for one. This practical hardy skilled miner knows every knoll and gully in the gold bearing districts of Nevada and will willingly write you the true conditions about every claim or established mining company in that state." What a guy!

But reality will sink in. In 1907 Jones' famous Exploration Company of Goldfield was seized by Ingalls for fraudulent activities. This was just the beginnings of his scam activities! (Bennett Collection) Date: 1906-1939 Location: Goldfield, Nevada HWAC# 59872
