Introduced to Japan in 1543 by the Portuguese, the Matchlock was soon employed by the Samurai Class and the foot soldiers. Once used in battle it became a mainstay weapon. This Matchlock, although in need of professional restoration, has survived literally for hundreds of years in relatively good shape. The engravings on the barrel are of Japanese Serpents, Swans and Clouds. Originally inlaid with gold and silver, some traces still remain. The Hardwood stock is primarily intact but need some repairs. Some mechanical parts are missing but replacement parts are available. All and all a beautiful piece of ancient firearm history that would look great adorning any den, office or gun room. State: City: Date: FHWAC#: 42747
