1865 pass signed by the president Jay Gould. Gould gained control in the Panic of 1857. Gould started his career as the superintendent of this line! Number 558. The Rutland and Washington Railroad was a railroad company based in Rutland, Vermont in 1847. In 1865 (the year of this pass) these two lines and one other merged to form the Rensselaer & Saratoga. One small mark on bottom left. One in a series of 1865 passes issued to H Nichols of the Naugatuck Railroad. Pass was issued to Horace Nichols.
