This ingot came from a joint venture of Freeport Gold Company and FMC Gold Corporation, the Jerritt Canyon Project in Elko County, Nevada is dated 1980. Marked Fine 999.9, the ingot is 3 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches and 8 mm thick; it weighs 241 grams, might be gold plated. Over 7 million ounces of gold have been extracted from the Jerritt Canyon District since gold was first discovered there in 1972. Official mining operations began sometime around 1981 and this ingot was most likely made as a keepsake for shareholders of the mine. The mine has changed ownership many times over the years but began as a partnership between the Freeport Company and FMC which later became known as Freeport-McMoran. [Elko Co.] [Nevada]
