This is a VERY early catalog and is complete. John Clark first appears in the 1873 McCormick's City Directory at 78 Front Street. Name was changed to John Clark & Son around 1897. He as born in Ireland in 1826. He learned the art of harness and saddlery in Liverpool as a teenager. He arrived in Portland in 1862 and went to work for pioneer maker Samuel Sherlock. He was to become one of Portland's most prolific and famous saddlers for the next 47 years. He sold saddles, chaps, rolls, bridles, bits, spurs, etc. locally and as far east as Montana. THe now famous Clark Bucking Roll was patented and attribute to John Clark in 1901. There has been some moisture damage at some point in its history. A few pages have color bleed (see the photograph for most troublesome page). Pages have been interleaved with acid free tissue to prevent print transfer. Cover has come loose from the pages. There are 40 pages of saddles (mostly), bits, harnesses, etc. from this most famous Oregon saddle maker. State:Oregon City:Portland Date: ID# 49707
