Lot of five brilliant uncirculated bronze medals, 38 mm, in original tissue paper. John D. Larkin, born in 1845 in Buffalo, first became involved in the making of soap at the age of 16. In 1874 he married Hannah Frances Hubbard. The next year he established a factory at 199 Chicago Street. The John D. Larkin Company, began making Sweet Home Soap, which was a laundry soap. Obv. Bust of Larkin left; Rev. 50th Anniversary. John D. Larkin handed out this medal to employees, shook their hand, and gave them some words of advice. The medals were designed by Julio Kilenyi and were struck by Whitehead and Hoag.
