82 postcards from paintings by John Innes. Best known for his paintings of Indians, cowboys, wildlife and the Canadian Pioneer West. John Innes was known as the "Remington of the Canadian West," and "the dean of Canadian historical artists." He was an artist, illustrator, cartoonist, publisher, correspondent and author. Born in 1863 in London, Ontario and was educated in Ontario and England. Returned to Canada after his education in England and traveled west prior to the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He joined a survey party in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, where he created maps and sketches with Ross, Mann and Holt. Innes worked in New York City for Hearst Publishing Company. He served in the Boer War with 2nd Canada Mounted Rifles. Worked in Vancouver from 1913 until he died in Vancouver in 1941.
