About twelve volumes of John L. Stoddard's Portfolio of Photographs of famous cities, scenes and paintings. Part of the Household Educational Series of 1893, published weekly with a subscription price of $25 per year. Photos are 8 x 10 inches, bound is soft cover brochures of about 16 each. Covers have become detached, but pictures are in fine condition. John Lawson Stoddard (1850-1931) was an American lecturer, author and photographer who pioneered the use of the stereopticon (magic lantern), adding photographs to his lectures about his travels. In addition to his wildly popular lectures, he published books: "Red-Letter Days Abroad: (1884) "Glimpses of the World," (1892) and this Portfolio of Photographs which was issued in sixteen weekly installments.
