John Tanner Clark, a relatively little-known figure in the rise of fundamentalism among the Latter-day Saints during the early twentieth century. Born Jan 4, 1865 in Provo, UT to John and Alvira Pratt Clark and raised in LDS Church. Clark member of church but not a polygamist. His creative theological speculations that separated him from formal church doctrine. None of his personal papers survived and only known as a member of the BUY faculty at one time. Married Alice Scow in 1896, had no children and she died in 1898. He never remarried, served in WWI and developed a shield for ships. He later invented a puncture-proof automobile tire and a special rim. He formed the John T. Clark Mechanically Inflated Tire Company in 1913. Prag collection.
