The Jones & Russell Pikes Peak Express was formed by John S. Jones and William H Russell in 1859. It was sold in 1860. This is a precursor to Russell, Majors and Waddle and the Pony Express. Dated Apr. 12, 1860. The company was sold in February, but the frank was used until July. Denver City inside the postmark, Postmark in very nice condition. Leavenworth postmark used as cancel where the cover entered the United State Mail. The letter is datelined Russells Gulch (as in William G. Russell who found the gold that started the Pikes Peak Gold Rush). He mentions several other miners (?) living in the area and the Kansas Territory. The letter is very readable, but fragile. Handle with care.
