1867 Joseph J. Mickley Medal. By William H. Key. Bronze. About uncirculated, 50 mm. Obv: Bust of Mickley left, name JOSEPH J. MICKLEY above, date 1867 below, signed W. KEY F. at the base. Rev: Inscription PRESIDENT / OF THE / NUMISMATIC / AND / ANTIQUARIAN / SOCIETY / OF / PHILADELPHIA. Over the years, Mickley became a regular visitor at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, becoming close friends with mint curator William E. Dubois, who dubbed him the "Father of American Numismatics."
