This journal of record, written by General James Bell of the 9th Cavalry was stationed at Fort Wingate, N.M. At roughly 30 pages of scientific notes written between 1881 and 1886 when he was in the capacity of Commissary General of Subsistence. He had performed these duties before during the Civil War. He goes to great length to test the gulen in a number of samples supplied to the military where Fort Wingate was a central military depot for supplies during the Indian Wars of the 1880's (against the Navajos of this region.) Labeled: "Flour Inspections". The binding covers are loose but the pages are intact with great clarity. His penmanship, organizational skills, and scientific analyses are beyond reproach. He test sampled for flour, olive oil, and soap for the military in this journal. 5 in. X 8 in. Please see photo for details.
