Unique pairing for this famous Western mining explosives & hardware company. 1) Judson Manufacturing Company. Pictorial $500 bond No. 154 issued in 1887 to Henry L. Dodge. Signed by Egbert Judson as President and the secretary (illegible). Beautiful bond with brown border and vignette of San Francisco Bay at sunset. Not cancelled. No coupons present. Founded in 1882 with operations consisting of structural steel shops, machine shop, foundry, and more in Emeryville and Oakland. Judson was an inventor and manufacturer of explosives and involved in early explosives formation and testing in San Francisco in the 1860s. He was part of the famous Giant Powder Company until he eventually formed his own explosives company which competed successfully with Giant Powder. Judson was also involved in mining operations such as the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Co. and the Anaconda Mining Company. 2) 1896 billhead for The Judson Dynamite & Powder Co. for fuses bought by the Utica Mining Co.
