Julia Consolidated Mining Company Stock Certificate: Virginia Mining District, Storey County, NV – 1878 - Incorporated August 18, 1875, and capitalized at $11,000,000; 110,000 shares at $100 per. Certificate No. 20712 issued to Richardson Hill Co., Trustees, for 5 shares at $100 each on October 21, 1878. Signed by Thomas Cole as President and A. Noel as Secretary. Vignette of an allegorical woman deep in thought on the right, along with an ornate representation of the company's initials on the left. The Julia had 3000 feet located east of the Bullion and Chollar-Potosi. By Oct. 1878 (Ref. Pacific Coast Mining Review, p.209) shafts and exploration to a depth of 2000 feet had been accomplished with an expenditure of 6 assessments totaling $632,500 and no dividends. Eight assessments recorded on reverse. Hitting considerable water at these lower depths the Julia was one of the first mines to enter into a contract with Sutro Tunnel Co.
