Hopkins, Juliet (1818-90), known as "Florence Nightingale of the South," group of four includes 3 Treasury Notes with her vignette, and a bank check signed by Hopkins. Treasury Notes include 3 different, all with Cotton Wagon at Center, Juliet Opie Hopkins at Right: Montgomery, Alabama, Jan. 1, 1863, 25 cent note, Criswell-5, Haxby-Unlisted, Apparent Grade-About Uncirculated, (Serial No. 13287); Montgomery, Alabama, Jan. 1, 1863, 25 cent note, Criswell-6a, Haxby-Unlisted, Apparent Grade-Crisp Uncirculated, (Serial No. 12828); Montgomery, Alabama, Jan. 1, 1863, 25 cent note, Criswell-7, Haxby-Unlisted, R-4, Apparent Grade-Crisp Uncirculated, (Serial No. 13147); and an autographed check (Richmond, Va. 5/9/62) signed with married name (Mrs. A.H. Juliet Hopkins is the only woman selected by the Sons of Confederate Veterans to receive the Confederate Medal of Honor. She was wounded in the leg at Seven Pines in 1862 while serving her country. Her portrait appears on the Alabama 25 and 50 cent currency. When she dies, she was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors in tribute to her devotion to duty.
