1) Number 4349 for 100 shares to the Goldfield Consolidated on July 30, 1909. The very next day, the second dividend for the Jumbo was declared and the controlling company was able to take advantage of that (note on side of certificate). Signed by secretary Howe (popular Wingfield secretary in the later 1900's) and president Wingfield. Typical three mining Vignettes and two pin holes on Wingfield stocks. Very nice condition. Uncancelled. 2) 1906 John S. Cook Bank check. 'Jumbo Mining Company of Goldfield' printed on left. Famous elephant background vignette. Signed by locator C. D. Taylor. This is a rare check.

This stock is issued to the Goldfield Consolidated Mines Company on July 30, 1909. The Consolidated had taken over ownership of the Jumbo on November 13, 1906 when it was formed. This company was the sixth largest Goldfield producer pre-1910. The Jumbo mine lies just north of the Florence; the main Jumbo shaft being half a mile north of the Florence shaft and the same distance east of the Combination shaft. The holdings of the Jumbo Mining Company in 1905 comprised the Jumbo Lucky Boy, Grizzly Bear and Clermont claims all forming a compact group. Practically all the development is on the Jumbo claim which was located by C. D. Taylor on May 19 1903. In the following October the property was bonded for $100,000 but crosscuts at a depth of 50 feet having failed to open up ore the bond was relinquished. In March 1904 the Jumbo Mining Company was organized. ["The Geology and Ore Deposits of Goldfield, Nevada" by Ransome et al]

King George was Nevada's Political and Financial boss in the early 1900's. If you wanted to run for office, you needed his blessing. If you were a friend and in trouble, he was known to make troubles disappear.

"Wingfield was one of the state’s most powerful economic and political figures during the period from 1909 to 1932. He rose from faro dealer to the position of richest man in Nevada in less than five years. While living in the central Nevada town of Goldfield, Wingfield and his partner, George Nixon, established the Goldfield Consolidating Mining Company, which ultimately produced more than $50 million worth of ore. In 1906, the partners established the Nixon National Bank of Reno (later renamed the Reno National Bank), and in 1908, Wingfield moved to Reno, where he became active in politics, banking, ranching, and hotel-keeping. He was influential in developing Reno’s gambling and divorce-related tourism industries." [renohistorical.org]
