Two documents attached to each other. Top is a Memorandum of Bullion Deposited for Assay at the Gold Hill Assay Office on June 12, 1889 by the Washoe Mill for the Justice Co. Two bullion bars produced, 1,422 and 1,535 ounces, .922 fineness silver. Signed by assayer WS James. 5.25 x 9.5" Attached to a Carson City Mint Memorandum of Silver Bullion. Deposited by Chas. H. Peters for the mine (he was also an insurance agent in Carson). Signed by WG Thompson for Supt. Purple print. 5.5 x 11" The Justice Mine was staked in 1859. It was located near Devils Gate in Silver City. In the 1870s, a shaft was sunk to explore the Comstock Lode at great depth (similar shafts were sunk in Gold Hill and Virginia City). The Washoe Mill was also near Devils Gate and was also known as the Devils Gate Mill. In June 1889, the Carson City Mint was still not producing coins (it had been on hiatus since 1885). However, just 4 months later, they would begin striking coins again.
