Memorandum of Gold Bullion deposited at Kellogg & Humbert's Assay Office in February 1860 by DO Mills & Co. per Hardy & Kennedy. 117 ounces, .894 fineness. FH notes they did not report assay for silver or pay for the silver. Vignette of the building at 108 Montgomery St. The partnership formed in 1855 and lasted till 1860. More than 300 Kellogg & Humbert gold ingots sank in the S.S. Central America wreck in 1857. In addition to the ingots, the firm minted gold coins to fill the void left by the recently opened San Francisco Mint who couldn't keep up with the Gold Rush demand. Marked "Hardy & Kennedy" bottom left. These were the merchants who paid DO Mills in the gold. Mills was then having the gold melted so he could receive payment from Kellogg & Humbert. 5.25 x 11.75" Folds, discoloration.
