Copper ingot and mine tags from the famous Kelly Mine in New Mexico. The ingot is marked "KCM" and weighs less than five ounces.
These items came to us from a collector in silver city, new mexico, as well as a great collection of native copper from Chino-Santa Rita (see the mineral section in the sale). The Kelly is one of the top 2 copper mines near silver city, and is the only one to use the initials KCM (kelly copper Mine), as far as we could find.
initially, i thought it was Kennecott Copper mine, but info on the web led us to Kelly- kennecott didn't own kelly or chino, and it makes more sense that a silver city miner worked at kelly and/or chino. However, maybe one of our friends who worked at these two great mines can tell us.City: Santa Rita State: New Mexico Date: hwac# 36132
