Group of 5 showing the Kennedy Mine Fire, Jackson, Calif. The Kennedy Mine was originally discovered in the 1850s and was once the deepest gold mine in North America (at close to 6,000 feet). A fire in the nearby Argonaut in 1919 spread to the Kennedy and both were flooded in an attempt to put the fire out. During the deadly 1922 Argonaut fire, the Kennedy was used as a possible rescue entry. (Prag Collection) City: Jackson State: California Date: hwac# 23438
