This Civil War Era Railroad Pass has a direct connection to the civil war! The Kentucky Central served the Union cause during the War as a link in the line of communication through Kentucky. Extending as it did from Covington to Lexington, a distance of 99 miles. It was so situated as to form the link between cities north of the Ohio, and Lexington. Signed by QA Keith. Keith was one of the original trustees in 1863. One in a series of 1865 passes issued to H Nichols of the Naugatuck Railroad. Pass was issued to Horace Nichols. He was employed by the railroad from its inception in 1848 until 1880. The railroad was consolidated in 1888. Tape stain on upper right. Date: Location: Kentucky HWAC # 53539
