This is a great Nevada Territorial Stock for a collector. It is NUMBER 1. It is actually dateline Unionville. All three names seem to be found in Thompson and West. # 1 for 130 shares to WIlliam Weatherlow. Signed by FW Blake and president John H Neal. Dateline Unionville 1864. Not cancelled. Cornucopia and lady vignettes. Simple design. Kenny & Alexander printers from San Francisco. Pin hole at fold intersections. Nicks around the border. Small rip right border.

Frank W Blake was the cousin of Gorham Blake of S.S. Central America fame. After arrived in California from Boston in 1852, Frank settled in Weaverville for seven years, where he eventually opened his own express company. Documents from Blake`s Weaverville Express business have been sold by us, as well as assay certificates. After two years in Sacramento, Frank moved to Carson City for a year; in 1862, he was an original member of Carson City's Odd Fellows Lodge. He then left for Unionville, NV, the "Land of Silver." By 1863, F.W. Blake was issuing assay certificates and serving as mining secretary for several local corporations. He remained in Unionville until 1866, when he left for Silver City, in southern Idaho, where new gold camps were springing up. He set up a successful assay office and was soon the owner of a jewelry store and additional real estate [Holabird, 2008, 467]. We have sold Blake ingots in previous sales.

There is a John M Neal who was an original member of the Nevada Democratic Party. 1860 William Weatherlow was living in Susanville witch was often considered in the Nevada Territory. He wrote a letter to the Governor of the Utah Territory reporting on an attempt to negotiate with the Pah-Ute Indians. Very Interesting. Later in 1860 Captain Weatherlow had a party of men scouting around Pyramid Lake after the Battle of Pyramid Lake. Prag Collection
