$1,000 Kentucky & Great Eastern Railway Co 7% Gold Coin bond, due Feb. 15, 1892 w/ 40 coupons. Chartered under laws of Kentucky. Green paper. Inside 3 vignettes 1) man shooting Indian in forest, 2) train in oval 3) gentleman sitting besides barrel in oval. 3 vignettes on back of bond 1) women holding staff above head on ground 2) 2 men shaking hands over ribbon of Kentucky, 3) 2 men with pick and ax with rifles on ground. Signed by secretary. Printed: American Bank Note. Co. New York & Cincinnati. 3 stock certificates of Lexington Union Station Co. Raised seal, green border May 9, 1956 it was announced that Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Co. was moving out of Lexington’s Union Station. May 9, 1957, the last passenger train left from station. Union Station was closed due to high operating overhead and low passenger travel. Opened on Aug. 4, 1907, when the C&O passenger train arrived. Estimated crowd of 3,000 met the train. Exterior was built with red and yellow brick, and green and red glass. Lobby in the center rotunda with a 50' high central dome. Lobby had a Roman arch ceiling and 6 oak waiting benches. Building demolished in March, 1960. 30 cancelled shares of Lexington & Eastern Railway Co certificate No 256 incorp. deferred debenture. Vignette of eagle spread, gray border and company seal.
