Awwww, their SO CUTE! Did you know that Midwest writer and illustrator Rose O'Neill literally dreamt up the Kewpie as a character for a comic strip back in 1909. The cherub-faced Cupid-like figure was rendered as bisque dolls, first in Germany, in 1912, and then in composition and celluloid after WWI. Their success made O'Neill the highest-paid female illustrator in the U.S. by 1914. Kewpie images were widely used in advertising an extensive line of household goods and food items that are still sought by collectors. These postcards have the Kewpies offering good wishes and cute smiles. Three of these cards show O'Neill with her dolls, and 13 of them show the O'Neill Room of the Shepherd of the Hills Museum in Branson, Missouri. Oh my, aren't they just aDORable?!
