Six key Nevada mining references, 1866-78. As per FH, "includes the single most important, original source material for mining of the period. Exceedingly rare!"

1) Nevada State Mineralogist: Annual report of the State Mineralogist of the State of Nevada for 1866. Carson City: Joseph E. Eckley, State Printer, 1867. 8vo. 151 pp., folding table of principal mines of the Comstock. Original printed wraps, front 2 pages loose, otherwise a very good clean copy. Richard H. Stretch was the state mineralogist. Important compilation of statistical information on mines and mining in the state, by county, especially Gold Hill and the Comstock Lode. (26 pp. with foldout table on the Comstock mines). Tabulation of gold and silver production in each of the county mining districts. Includes an appendix containing ""Hints"" for prospectors and a journal of explorations in Southern Nevada by Governor Blasdel. Besides listing all the mines, there is a list of mills and the amount of bullion products produced in the state in 1866. Armstrong Nevada Printing History 446, five locations, one copy on OCLC. 2) Nevada Biennial Report 1867/68. Carson City: Henry R. Mighels, State Printer, 1869. First edition, limited to 1500 copies. 96 pages. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4. Original printed wraps bound in ex. lib. green cloth over boards. Very early report referencing Nevada mining including the Comstock Lode. The first report was printed in 1867 for the year 1866. A.F. White was the state mineralogist. Mines are reported by county. Mining Superintendent reports were used in much of the compilation of data. 66 mining claims are detailed for the Comstock Lode with much more on the Gould & Curry and the Savage mines. A good history of the Esmeralda District along with 18 mines and 8 mills. Nevada Imprints 121; Armstrong, Nevada Printing History 528. Not in Paher's Nevada Bibliography.

3) 1869/70. Carson City:: Charles L. Perkins, State Printer, 1871. First edition, limited to 1500 copies. 128 pages. 8 7/8 x 5 3/4. Original mauve printed wraps. Nevada Imprints 139; Armstrong, Nevada Printing History 618. Not in Paher's Nevada Bibliography. A.F. White was the state mineralogist. Early report re Nevada mining including report from each of the major mines on the Comstock Lode. Much detail on the Ophir, Gould & Curry, Hale and Norcross and the Chollar-Potosi. The Eureka district is detailed as 1869 and 70 were the first years of substantial growth and development. Likewise many mines, mills and smelters in the White Pine district are covered. Folding Table of Shipments of Ore and crude metals for the two years covered. Also includes A Catalog of Nevada Flora by C.L. Anderson, M.D. Rear wrap missing, front wrap chipped and brittle, last page torn, dime sized piece missing at top of front, else very good.

4) 1871/72. Charles A. V. Putnam, State Printer Carson City: SPO,, 1873. First edition, limited to 2000 copies of which 500 were bound in cloth. This copy cloth hardbound 191 pages. 8 7/8 x 5 3/4. Original mauve printed wraps. Nevada Imprints 165; Armstrong, Nevada Printing History 715. Not in Paher's Nevada Bibliography. H. R. Whitehill was the state mineralogist. Early report referencing Nevada mining including detailed report regarding the Comstock Lode. Much detail on the Savage mine, materials and it's assay operations. Also, a table of 29 mills and which Comstock mines they serviced, number of stamps and ore processed in tons per day. Much detail on other counties not previously cover in past reports including Esmeralda, Elko, Humboldt, Lander, and Lincoln. A Supplement (pgs. 155-191) details the output from many hundreds of mines organized by county and broken out quarterly over the two years of the report. This copy has an insert attached inside the front cover that says, "Compliments of Henry R. Whitehill State Mineralogist". Very Fine condition, very Rare.

5) 1873/76. Carson City:: John J. Hill, State Printer, SPO,, 1877. First edition, limited to a few hundred copies which were bound in cloth with a spine in gilt, "Mineralogist of the State of Nevada" 9 x 6". 191 pages for 1873-4 and 226 pages for 1875-6. Nevada Imprints 228; Armstrong, Nevada Printing History 904. Not in Paher's Nevada Bibliography. Henry R. Whitehill was the state mineralogist. Early report referencing Nevada mining including a wealth of valuable data regarding all the mines. Much detail of the mines and mining operations focus on Elko. Esmeralda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Nye, Storey and White Pine Counties. 1873-4 covers two of the bonanza years of the Comstock Lode and has much information on the mines along the Lode (pages 101-144). A thirty page report follows on 26 Comstock Mines is one of the most important of these reports (1875-6). Of particular interest, a discussion of the infamous fire that burned a greater portion of Virginia City on October 29, 1875 including a number of the mills and hoisting work structures. In particular, significant details on both the Consolidated Virginia and California mines are extracted from the mines' President's and Superintendent's reports. Included in 1875-6 is a Supplement, 39 pages, showing proceeds with data for many hundreds of mines in tons of ore and value during the years 1871-5 by quarter with the last three quarters of 1876. Fine condition with the usual wear around the edges of the cover and spine ends.

6) 1877/78. San Francisco: A. L. Bancroft, Printers, 1879. First edition, limited to 2000 copies.; Armstrong, Nevada Printing History 1056. Not in Paher's Nevada Bibliography. Henry R. Whitehill was the state mineralogist. This is one of the most important of these reports. It covers two of the bonanza years of the Comstock Lode and has much information on the mines along the Lode (pages 95-150). Report from the Consolidate Virginia, the "richest mine in the world". Pages 94 -150 finds a detailed report on Comstock Mines Also, a report regarding each County of the State and the mining activity there. 212 pages. 9 x 5 7/8. Printed soft covers. Invaluable information for anyone interested in mining or Nevada history. This is the last report issued by the State Mineralogist, because the Legislature abolished the office, effective the end of 1878. Some stains and soil on front cover, Tear along 1" of top edge of front cover and general edge wear. Slight loss of spine cover and there is a bit of separation starting between spine cover and front and back covers, but still Overall a very good copy of a very scarce report and the contents are very good or better.
