Gold Hill Dis., Storey Co. (printed at left). Dateline Justice Ledge, Gold Hill, N.T., April 20th, 1864. Incorporated only a week prior! No. 17, issued for 10 shares to Thos. F. Craft. Signed by the president, Wm. Arrington, and the secretary, S.W. Chubbuck. Not cancelled. No vignette, but fancy border and logo. Also, the spots for certificate number and shares are meant to look like ingots. Printed by Gold Hill News Print. 25 cent IR adhesive revenue stamp, pen cancelled. Folds, nick in bottom right corner, otherwise excellent condition. From the 1864 Collins Directory: William Arrington is listed as a stock broker in the Medan Building and not to be confused with N.O. Arrington, territorial banker. There is also a William Arrington listed on Capt. A. McDonald's Virginia Volunteers roll as being "mortally wounded" in the Pyramid Lake Indian War of 1860. A relative of our Arrington? S.W. Chubbuck was secretary for numerous mining companies and later ran the Post Office store in Gold Hill. T.F. Craft is listed as bookkeeper for Flagg & Co. The Keystone Mining Company is listed as having 1200 ft. in the Gold Hill District with Geo. Turney as secretary. The Arrington Company is listed with J.F. Linthicum as secretary and an office in Gold Hill. The Keystone joins the Justice on the northern boundary, just south of the New York in Gold Canyon, about a mile below Gold Hill (hence reference to the "Justice Ledge").
