Cert. #30, issued to C.B. Rice for 200 shares at Chicago, Illinois in 1881. The Keystone Mine is one of the most famous and prolific producing mines on the California gold rush. The mine dates to 1851, near the beginning of the gold rush. Comprising many claims, the Keystone produced over $24 million in gold. Employing over 100 men, the mine reached a depth of 2,680 feet (amadorgold.net). The company acquired the Spring Hill mine and mill in 1920, and continued production until 1942 (Gudde). The certificate has some browning and the red ink is slightly smeared. The certificate comes with two billheads from the company dated 1876, and a payroll check from 1896. A nice group from this historic mine. The certificate is quiet scarce and seldom seen. U/C.
