2 Volumes King's Daughters and Founding Mothers: The Filles du Roi, 1663-1673. Published 2001.Colonization of the Americas was exploding but French (Canadian) colonies were falling further and further behind in population growth. To make matters worse the number of males far outweighed the number of females. So the King of France started a project known as the Filles du Roi. Transportation to Canada and settlement in the colony were paid for by the King. Some were given a royal gift of a dowry of 50 livres for their marriage to one of the many unmarried male colonists in Canada. Roughly 768 young ladies arrived between 1663 and 1673. 981 pages in two volumes. [France]
