Kinsley brass steam whistle. Measures 7" tall by 1.50" in diameter and has a nice patina. This smaller whistle, according to research, was probably used for a steam boat or steamship valve. The Kinsley Company distinguished itself by making the bells in their whistles movable so they could be positioned to sound different, distinctive tones according to inlet pressure. This feature was very useful for steam boats in high traffic waterways, in heavy fog and on moonless dark nights or to signal steamship crews when the boilers reached a certain pressure which alerted the staff by sound so they did not have to monitor the gauge. This whistle is in very nice condition. Please see photos for more details. WATCH FOR JANUARY'S LARGE COLLECTION OF RAILROADIANA: SILVER, CHINA AND MORE!! Bridgeport Connecticut
