Orange & white USAF parachute used in Korean War. Lines cut. Markings faded but what is legible reads: NOPY ASSY. DWG. No. 50E6877, OR?R No. AF33 (038)-15023, SERIAL No. USAF 51-43567, JUNE '51, BY IRVING AIR CHUTE CO.,INC., No. 139581, CANOPY TYPE C-9. Below these marks are two small circles with alphanumerics inside reading IAC-L 1 in one circle and LAC 15 in the other. Notes: the Korean War (June 1950 – July 1953) was the first war in which the newly independent United States Air Force was involved. The Irving Air Chute Company was founded in the early 20th century by Leslie Leroy Irvin who made history as the first free-fall parachute jumper. By WW II his Irving Air Chute Co. had become the largest parachute manufacturer in the world. A likely clerical error added the "g" to Irvin which ultimately renamed to Irvin Industries in 1970.
