Philatelic Cover collection of six post cards and nine covers from the famous Graf Zeppelin, LZ 127. Fifteen (15) pieces overall. The Graf Zeppelin was considered the most successful airship in history through the start of WW2. Its first flight was on September 18, 1928 in Friedshafen, Germany. The Zeppelin went on to become the first air vehicle to make an around the world trip, and as such drew great world-wide attention. People were so fascinated with this giant steel structured gas balloon (blimp-style) that many countries issued postage stamps with its image, including the USA, which issued two series of Zeppelin stamps. The last flight was 1937. The airship was dismantled in 1940. The collection is nothing short of fantastic. 1. It starts with a photo card of Hugo Eckener, the captain of the Graf Zeppelin when it went around the world, carrying 60 people. it is postmarked October 10, 1928 in Germany and October 16, 1928 in New York, with a graf zeppelin cancel showing the LZ 127 notation with a 2dm zeppelin German stamp.
