Endorsed check signed on reverse by Claudia A. Johnson, who was better known by the world as First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, wife of the 36th President of The United States Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was born Claudia Alta Taylor in the East Texas town of Karnack on December 22, 1912. Her father, Thomas Jefferson Taylor, was owner of a general store. Her mother, Minnie Pattillo Taylor, died when Claudia was five years old. Legend has it that a nursemaid said Claudia was "as purty as a lady bird;" the nickname stuck for life.
The endorsement is on a check issued to The National Wildflower Research Center (1982-1995), an organization founded by Johnson and actress Helen Hayes and later named after Johnson.
The check is written by military veteran Joseph F. Fawls. In nice condition. Please see photos for more details.
