Lady Jameson Gold and Silver Mining Company Stock Certificate - American Flat, Gold Hill District, Storey County, N.T. - 1864 - 9.50 x 4.75. Incorporated February 1864. Cert #23 issued to N.A. Chandler on February 27, 1864, for 1,200 shares. Signed by Secretary A.S. McDowell and President N.R. Mims. Capitalized at $120,000; 1200 shares at $100 per. One 25-cent, red R48, R4, hand tied, adhesive, perforated, U. S. Power of Attorney stamp located on the left side. Listed in Collins's Mercantile Guide and Directory for Virginia City, Gold Hill, Etc.. 1864-65, p. 363. Located South of Gold Hill in the American Flat area. The name of the flat was reported to have come from Emanuel Penrod, a friend of Henry Comstock. Penrod remarked on the flat being first mined by Americans opposed to other areas around the Comstock [Ref: Carlson, Nevada Place Names, 1974, pp. 37, 123]. Union Print, Virginia (rare). Folds present and little wear on the sides. U/C.
