Number41, issued for 10 shares to J.V.B. Perry. Signed by president G.A. King and secretary W.E.F. Deal. Not cancelled. Unusual vignette of hunting dogs overtaking a buck. Small vignette at the bottom of a dog next to a safe. Commercial Print, Virginia. 25 cent Power of Attorney stamp at left. Folds, some separation, and soiling. This Stock certificate shares the names of two of Virginia City's more interesting people. The first is JVB Perry. Described as a, "Big, powerful, good natured mostly; but terrible when aroused!" He was the Virginia City Marshall and saloon owner. WEF Deal was a popular mining company secretary. worked to become a lawyer. His most famous case was defending Chinese workers against Humboldt County miners. The Lake View Mining Company was a popular mine for a month in the Virginia City newspapers. The mine was located near Desert City. A mining Camp that has been lost to history! The Lake View was on the more promising City Ledge in the Desert Mining District. This District was most easily reached by Ragtown (Fallon). . A 5 stamp mill was built there about 1863, but was unsuccessful, perhaps because of the isolation and lack of water.
