This landscape painting is oil on canvas by noted artist Charles Theodore Greener of Faulkton, South Dakota. Born in Lancaster, Wi. in 1870 and died in Faulkton in 1935. Signed in the lower right corner "C.T. Greener 1919". The canvas is 16.75 in. X 10. 75 in. framed at 14 in. X 20 in. It depicts a spring-time pond with blooming trees and groundcover. The frame appears to be original with considerable wear on the back side. The canvas however is in beautiful condition. Greener is noted for painting President Coolidge and his wife in 1928 reflecting on their trip west to the Black Hills in 1927 titled "Looking Toward Washington". The painting now resides in the Memorial Art Center in Brookings, S.D. as a gift from the Coolidge family. Another recognized Greener work is "Coyote at Sunrise" that graced the cover of South Dakota Magazine in November 1992 now hanging in the Old Main building at USD in Vermillion. About 315 Greener works of art are known to exist.
