The San Francisco Directory for the Year Commencing 1865: Embracing a General Directory of Residents and a Business Directory; Also, Directory of Streets, Public Offices, etc. and a new map of the City(missing): Together with the Consolidation Act and its Amendments; the Municipal Government; Societies and Organizations, and a great variety of useful and statistical information, exhibiting at a glance The Progress and Present Condition of the City. Eighth Year of Publication. Compiled by Henry G. Langley, Editor of the State Register and State Almanac. Excelsior Steam Press: Towne & Bacon, Book and Job Printers. San Francisco. 791 pages in all: 112 pages of ads in front numbered separately (ii - cxii), including endpaper. 679 Directory pages including ads in back and endpaper. This book is a TREASURE TROVE for advertising collectors, with hundreds of incredible, very attractive ads, many with great illustrations of the city, buildings, businesses, products, horse-drawn carriages, steam boats, trains, equipment, industrial subject matter, engineering inventions, instruments, factories, foundries, agricultural implements, city street scenes, wind mills, new patents, and so much more. A fascinating history filled with interesting details. Inside pages are in fair condition; no apparent missing pages, moisture/water damage throughout, mildew? spots and discoloration worst on first and last pages. Pages are wavy, but none stick and all content is still legible. First page is chipped badly and worn on edges. Nameplate for Library obscures front endpaper. Amateur glue to front hinge. Incredible illustrated ads, Original covers, spine appears to be newer; boards warped and covers halfway worn off, damaged by water, but still attached; See photos for condition details. Overall, poor to fair condition --holding together, no loose pages, binding still ok. This directory originally contained a map, but it was removed from this copy. A RARE, EARLY Directory.
