Vegas was to be infiltrated by the mob and legislation was needed. John R. “Jack” McCloskey, a native of Goldfield, Nevada, was born in 1911. His parents had left Leadville, Colorado in the wake of labor violence there. McCloskey attended local schools in Goldfield and Tonopah, always interested in the newspaper business.
