This is a production sample of a full-size ceremonial mace and display cradle made by Medallic Art Company prior to 2016. This mace is made from a walnut shaft approximately 1.25 inches in diameter with a total length of approximately 42 inches including a five-inch-diameter disk mounted vertically at the top. Each face of the walnut disk has a 3-inch-diameter, die-struck medallion, one in antiqued bronze representing the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the other in antiqued cupronickel featuring the Boy Scouts of America. The mace comes with a wooden display cradle, approximately 4x40 inches in size, that holds the mace in two felt-lined forks. There is a 2.5x8.5-inch brass plaque on the cradle that reads, "Please do not touch."

A ceremonial mace is a symbol of the authority and respect for the highest ranks of leadership at a school of higher learning or other institution. Typically a mace is carried at the front of a commencement procession of faculty and administrators ahead of the line of potential graduates, and it represents the office of the chancellor or president of the institution. Medallic Art Company has been a major manufacturer of ceremonial maces for many years. This was unsold material that remained after the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint.
