From early territorial days Judge Cradlebaugh, the Cradlebaugh ranch and the Cradlebaugh toll bridge over the Carson River played an important role in Nevada. Judge Cradlebaugh was an Associate Justice for Utah Territory (Nevada), escaped the Pyramid Lake Massacre, Territorial delegate to Congress, etc. His brother William Cradlebaugh (John's brother, Indian fighter, rancher) was responsible for much of the day-to-day operation of the ranch and toll bridge. Lot of 23. Includes 1) John Cradlebaugh signature on a 1865 Nevada Adjutant General's stationary. 'Toll road is beginning to pay very well.' 2) Five documents regarding his burial in Eureka. 3) 1872 letterhead from William Davenport to William. 4) Two (1877 and 1885) land contracts with the state. 5) 1899 insurance paper for William giving details of the ranch house. 6) Two land patents signed by three Nevada Governors: John Kinkead, RK Colcord, and John Jones. FANCY, large, with seals. Fabulous condition. 7) 1895 diagram of Katie Fowler (John's niece) new house. Rare. 8) Six letters from Katie. "We are at my Uncle's place (John) on the bank of the Carson River, which is a delightful place." "We could not get home that evening, so we stayed till the next Friday [at school]" "Avalanche occurred half past five in the morning killing three white people and seven Indians."
