Large sterling silver water pitcher with the maker's mark, SILVERCRAFT on the bottom. SILVERCRAFT, New York, NY, c.1923-1931, was a trademark of Farber Brothers. Pitcher is 10.5" high, 9" at widest point and 4.5" at base. Weighs about 2.0 pounds. Engraved on bottom, SILVERCRAFT/(with maker's mark)/18%/2360. We were unable to discern the meaning of "18%" and could not find an adequate company history. We did not test for fineness, and the black spots rub off with polish. The yellow on the bottom also comes off, and was a lacquer coating. Ornate edging on lip and around top, with decorative handle and engraved with two Hieracosphinx (falcon headed lions) in an elaborate decoration on both sides. Pitcher is polished and in excellent condition.
