Las Vegas, Nevada has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Films, T.V. Shows, and celebrities have made Sin City the perfect backdrop to sensationalized stories and tails. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the city had nearly 40 million people visited the city in 2013, pumping over $9 billion Clark County's economy. Yet the gaming and entertaining Mecca we have come to know today, had a rather humble beginning. The city of Las Vegas sprung up from the Nevada desert to become an economic and agricultural marvel. It is difficult to imagine the Las Vegas we all have come to know to look anything different than it does today Las Vegas has made a remarkable transformation in the past 75 years. In 1940, the city boasted a humble population of only 8,422 people. Projects like the Hoover Dam helped bring people to the area, but the first clue Las Vegas' potential as the new hotspot for resorts and casinos came about in 1941, with the opening of the El Rancho Vegas. By the end of the decade the city had 24,624 residents, while Clark County played home to 48,289 people. With a growing population and an increasing number of tourists to the area, casino and resort owners battled to create unique and even more luxurious resorts and casinos. Those early and smaller casinos often fell victim to the wrecking ball; destroyed to only be replaced with something new and bigger. While this practice has made Las Vegas the city that it is, it has made the historical structures a rare and forgotten site. This lot provides a look back on humble roots of Sin City.
