Colorado City, Cripple Creek, Telluride - Trinidad/ Law & Order/ pictorial of miner and soldier. Reverse: James H. Peabody Governor of Colorado with Peabody pictorial. Copper badge with red, white & blue ribbon. This is a fascinating Colorado badge. Peabody was governor of Colorado from 1903-1905. Before being governor, he was a very successful businessman in Canon City. He ran on the "law and order" platform. During his term, he had to deal with the Colorado Labor Wars, and his response was to send in militias. During the Cripple Creek Miner's Strike (1903-1904), he responded to the mine owner's pleas by sending in 1,000 troops and declaring martial law. His response to that situation doomed his attempt at re-election in 1905. This badge, given the pictorial of the miner and militiaman, may have been a re-election piece in support of Peabody.
